So far, the year is off to an outstanding start. Our new gym and pool are being utilized every day. We offered full athletics and performing arts summer programs as well as a successful Summer Bridge program. At Summer Bridge some students attended school for the first time in 18 months which provided a nice, calm environment to return to in-person attendance. Other students attended for enrichment, and some completed work to update their incomplete grades from last year. Our custodial and maintenance team have been truly incredible! I can’t thank them enough for all they’ve accomplished this summer, preparing our campus for our return.
I would also like to welcome some new staff:
Our staff has created themes that will drive our priorities for the school year. The staff, students, and families have been physically isolated for 18 months and these themes will bring us together as a learning community. I am very excited about “Reuniting” as a Mariner family, and “Reimagining” all of the possibilities moving forward.
Speaking of “Reimagining,” I would encourage everyone to reflect on the unexpected learning that we all experienced during the pandemic. What did we learn about ourselves, about the people who are there to support us, and about our ability to overcome challenges?
During the school year, please ask your child what she/he learned in school today and how she/he knows they learned the material. Students will be encouraged to attend tutorials to preview units, preview quizzes, revise their writing, retake quizzes, and engage in other activities for credit.
Our goal is to provide all Mariners with the opportunity to excel in academics, physical fitness, technology, and the arts so that everyone can become positive contributing members of our school and community.
More information to come regarding safety precautions, budgets, and meeting the diverse needs of all of our learners during the school year. I look forward to working with everyone as educational partners so that all of our students can fulfill their dreams for the future! Have a wonderful 2021-22 school year!
