1.        The meeting was called to order at 3:00 pm; the September 2006 meeting minutes were read and approved as presented.

2.       WASC News—The training for WASC chairs is 1 November 2006.

3.       CA Distinguished School News—There was a training last Monday on how to complete the application.  This is a major commitment, but completing this application will help us complete most of the preliminary work for WASC.  We need faculty cooperation for this to be a meaningful and smooth process; it is due 13 December 2006.

4.      AVID Update—All tutors needed have been hired and have been observed by the OCDE AVID Director, Sally Arellanos.  The AVID site team has many faculty members from both the English and Science Departments, but we need at least one member from each of the other departments on campus.  The program also received a $5000 grant from a community member. 

5.      Computer Resources Assistant—Financially, we cannot sustain the funds needed to guarantee this position year after year, so we will be unable to hire someone to take this job.  We have hired a college student, Tyrone Warren-also an AVID tutor, who will be on campus 9 ½ hours a week to work on our computers.  We can continue to hire college students for this position as it in not ongoing, but only a year-to-year basis.

6.      Staff Development Day—The $1100 previously approved for Clay Roberts will no longer be taken out of the budget because the district is paying for his services.  We will also have an expert in tagging and graffiti who will train us how to recognize graffiti on campus.

7.        Block Grant—A preliminary call for departmental needs was taken:

·        English/History:  fiction and non-fiction books

·        Science:  lab equipment

·        PE:  flood-proof the weight room

·        Math:  money to pay teachers to tutor

·        B Building:  LCD projectors

·        Guidance:  2 Fire-proof filing cabinets (@ $1500-$1600 each)

·        Home Economics:  new kitchens in Foods lab (cabinets, appliances, etc.)

8.       The meeting was adjourned at 3:10 pm.
