SBAC Scores

Our preliminary SBAC scores are in and they look fantastic. Our change over time is impressive as well as our results compared to other schools. I’m sure that once the County and State numbers are released we will learn that our results are even more impressive in those comparisons. The GGUSD results can be viewed here. The same data specific to Pacifica can be viewed here.

Extended Day Opportunities

There will be a variety of academic and wellness opportunities before school that will be shared via Parent Square as we open the school year. Starting the first day of school, the Media Center/Library will be open at 7:30 a.m. for students to come in and work, read, or relax. The Library will also be open after school until 5:00 p.m. As the year progresses and as programs and opportunities arise, we will communicate those options with students and parents. These will be shared via Parent Square as we open the school year.

Parking and Student Drop-Off

As we did last year, student drop off can be accessed via Knott and Lampson. Please refer to the map HERE for the paths of travel for automobiles. If you are entering from Knott, it is important that cars do not drop students off in the small lot just east of the library because it is congested and difficult to exit from there. It is marked “Staff Parking Only” in pink on the map. If you enter from Lampson you can drop off either to the right or the left. If you turn left please drive forward as far as possible and use the middle lane (if buses are there) or the right lane to drop off. Then merge back into the exit by pulling out using the left lanes. If you turn right from Lampson please pull as far forward as you can before stopping so that traffic does not back up onto Lampson.

Facilities

As far as facilities are concerned, permanent field lighting was installed so that our practices and games/matches can continue after dark. Our gym and dance floors were resurfaced. We have also grouped our arts classes together in rooms 301 and 303 and we have all of our Science classes housed in the 600 wing. Housing Science together and Art together has been a long-term project for several years since the buildings were completed under Modernization. If you see a maintenance/custodial team member please thank them for all of their hard work preparing our school every year and maintaining it on a daily basis.

Tutorial

This year, please ask your child what they learned in school today and how they know they learned the material. Students will be encouraged to attend Tutorials to preview units, preview quizzes, revise their writing, retake quizzes, and engage in other activities for credit. Please ask your student how Tutorial is going and feel free to call the school if you have any questions. Tutorial was recognized as our key program when we were awarded a California Distinguished School Award and we continue to refine it every year.

Our goal is to provide all Mariners with the opportunity to excel in academics, physical fitness, technology, and the arts so that everyone can become positive contributing members of our school and community.

With Mariner Pride!

Steve Osborne, Principal
